Description
Description | The projects aim, through the development of water infrastructure, such as dams, canals, pumps and pipelines, to expand irrigation services and, in the case of the hydro-agricultural project, also water supply and energy generation, leading to economic and social assistance to the most needy regions of the Brazilian semi-arid region. Partnerships with the private sector will allow the resumption of the implementation of these projects, interrupted due to the scarcity of budgetary resources, in addition to the incorporation of new technologies and greater productivity. The 7 new qualified projects are: Jequitaí Valley (MG) Iuiú Valley (BA) Chapada do Apodi (RN) Baixo Acaraú (CE) Coastal Tablelands (PI) Guadalupe Plateaus (PI) Boards from São Bernardo (MA) Located in the Municipalities of Malhada and Iuiú, in the State of Bahia, the Vale do Iuiú Irrigation Project has land access via the BR-030 highway, which connects the region with Vitória da Conquista/BA and Salvador/BA, and BR-122, connecting with Montes Claros/MG, in addition to the West-East Integration Railway, which borders the area. With around 250,000 hectares of irrigable land, representing 63% of the total area, and excellent topography conditions, the project includes two large blocks – Iuiú Norte and Iuiú Sul. Preliminary studies indicate the feasibility of irrigating an area of 51,700 hectares. |
