Description | The Vankor–Payakha–Sever Bay Pipeline is a roughly 770-kilometer-long pipeline in Russia's High North, part of Rosneft's Vostok Oil project. It is intended to transport crude oil from Arctic production areas to a new export terminal on the Kara Sea, from where the oil will be shipped via the Northern Sea Route. The Sever Port oil export terminal is being built as an extension of the port of Dikson on the Taimyr Peninsula, with a total berth length of 1,275 meters and an expected annual crude oil export capacity of 30 million tonnes in the first expansion phase. The project is under construction in a sensitive permafrost region, with concerns about environmental impact and climate policy implications. |
