Information Northern Railways has come up with Varanasi-Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya multitracking 15km including construction of new Rail-cum-Road Bridge across Ganga River. with a ticket size of 2464.46 INR Crores. This project in Railway Track sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Notice to Proceed and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project The proposed project envisages two additional lines, namely 3rd and 4th line, between Varanasi BSB and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay DDU station with provision of one important rail cum road bridge in the downstream of existing Malviya Bridge over river Ganga. The 3rd and 4th line between Varanasi and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay stations is required as the section is already facing detention and disruption of goods traffic. Moreover, with doubling of all other routes Varanasi Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Varanasi Sultanpur, Varanasi Pratapgarh, Varanasi Varanasi City Prayagraj there will be much more pressure on Varanasi yard and Varanasi Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay section as far as handling of frequent trains is considered. Varanasi station being, firstly, the gateway of NR to ECR, NCR and NER and secondly, the convergence of three routes from Lucknow, 3rd and 4th line have been planned to take the frequent movement in Varanasi Vyasnagar section.
