V.C. Summer Nuclear Reactors Sale and Potential Completion

Santee Cooper has selected Brookfield Asset Management to purchase the two unfinished nuclear reactors at the V.C. Summer nuclear site. The reactors are expected to produce 2,200 megawatts of electricity and provide several years of construction jobs. The deal is in the negotiation phase, with due diligence, licensing, and permitting expected to take a year or more before construction can resume. This project represents a new approach to nuclear energy production in South Carolina, shifting financial risk to private entities demanding new energy capacity.
