Description | Brookfield Asset Management has agreed to form an atomic power-plant development company with startup The Nuclear Company to potentially restart the abandoned VC Summer Nuclear Station project in South Carolina. The new company aims to build a fleet of reactors in the US using designs from Westinghouse Electric Co. The project involves reviving the two-reactor plan that was abandoned in 2017 due to cost overruns and contractor bankruptcy. Brookfield expects to make a final investment decision by late 2027 under a deal to acquire the assets from Santee Cooper for $2.7 billion, with the utility receiving a 25% ownership share. |
