Description

Description

The Vehicle Acquisition (Phase 14) project (the Project) involves the acquisition of approximately 210 Light Duty (LD) buses for use in both custom door to door service (handyDART) and conventional service in transit systems across British Columbia. Approximately 170 of the buses will support replacement of vehicles at the end of service life, with the balance supporting service expansion. Vehicles for custom service will be equipped with either wheelchair lifts or wheelchair assist loading systems for front ramp. All vehicles will provide improved safety amenities for drivers and riders, as well as the planned capacity for technology upgrades, that will ensure vehicles are able to accommodate planned improvements in vehicle tracking, CCTV cameras, and new payment technologies. The acquisition of these vehicles is part of BC Transit’s 2020-25 Strategic Plan, in which custom transit (handyDART) is one of the baseline areas of improvement. The expansion of the service meets the objectives of the Strategic Plan. The Project will provide improved capacity, quality, and/or safety of existing and/or future public transit.
