Acquisition of approximately 109 transit vehicles and other associated works in order to replace aging and end-of-life fleet. The vehicles will include approximately 62 light duty buses and approximately 47 additional vehicles which will be a mix of light duty and heavy duty buses. Buses will feature improved efficiency, accessibility standards, improved safety amenities for drivers and riders, as well as the planned capacity for technology upgrades that will ensure vehicles are able to accommodate planned improvements in vehicle tracking, CCTV cameras, and new payment technologies. Buses will feature increased efficiency due to mechanical improvements from previous models. Light Duty buses typically carry between 10-30 riders, and are under 10m in length. BC Transit primarily uses light duty buses for custom transit services (i.e., handyDART). BC Transit anticipates that some of the heavy-duty buses will be hybrid electric.
