Description
Description | The Velvet-Wood uranium-vanadium mine in San Juan County, Utah, is being restarted by Anfield Energy. The project involves reviving a previously operated mine that produced uranium and vanadium from 1979 to 1984. The new operation will add three additional acres to the original 25-acre footprint, mostly for road improvements, totaling 28 acres. The mine will produce critical materials for nuclear fuel and next-generation batteries over a 10-year life, directly employing 40 to 60 people and contributing hundreds of millions of dollars to the local economy. The project has undergone extensive environmental and regulatory review, including a Plan of Operations submitted in May 2024, construction approval in October 2025, and a ceremonial groundbreaking in November 2025. |
