Venetia Underground Project

Venetia is the biggest diamond mine development under way globally, transitioning from openpit to underground mining to extend mine life to 2046. The project involves mining the K01 and K02 orebodies using sublevel cave mining, with underground infrastructure including two vertical shaft systems and lateral access levels. Surface infrastructure was completed in early 2021. The project aims to ramp up to steady-state production of about 4 to 4.5 million carats per year by the mid-2030s. In 2026, the mine shifted to renewable energy, reducing its carbon footprint. De Beers has paused production for two years to reduce costs and rephase capital expenditure while investing in critical infrastructure to support future growth.
