VENOM-AFT AI-Controlled F-16 Flight Test Program

under testing

The VENOM-AFT program involves modifying F-16 fighter jets with additional hardware, software, and instrumentation to enable control by an artificial intelligence agent. The program aims to develop and test autonomous air combat capabilities by allowing AI to fly the aircraft while a human pilot monitors and can take control if necessary. Initial flights began in June 2026 to confirm safe operation, with AI-controlled flights starting in July 2026. The program builds on previous AI flight testing with the X-62A VISTA aircraft and supports further development of AI-controlled multi-aircraft combat systems.
