The Victorian government is implementing regulatory reforms to support the expansion of public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The initiative aims to deliver accessible, affordable, reliable, and safe EV charging to accommodate the explosive growth of EVs in the state. Key actions include improving network visibility, faster and cheaper connections, better network tariffs, fairer connection rules, and accelerating vehicle-to-grid rollout. The government plans to regulate if the Australian Energy Regulator does not deliver appropriate tariff trials and will reform demand tariffs to avoid penalizing larger charging sites. A governance review of the Victorian Service and Installation Rules is also underway to improve transparency and safety.
