Victorian Coal to Urea Fertiliser Project

The project involved converting lignite coal to gas to produce 520,000 tons per year of urea fertiliser for distribution primarily in Victoria. The project was planned to use coal reserves in Victoria to produce fertiliser and other products such as ammonia, diesel fuel, and aviation fuel. The project had an agreement in place to sell the fertiliser to Victorian agriculture but was halted due to the Victorian government's refusal to provide coal access, influenced by an ideology against coal. The project has now moved to New Zealand where it has received government support.
