Vietnam Irrigated Agriculture Improvement Project

The objective of the Irrigated Agriculture Improvement Project for Vietnam is to improve the sustainability of irrigated agricultural production systems in selected central coastal and northern mountains provinces in the country. The project consists of the following components: 1) improved irrigation water management, 2) irrigation and drainage scheme level improvements, 3) support services for climate-smart agricultural practices, and 4) project management, and monitoring and evaluation. The first component seeks to improve institutional capacity for modern, efficient, and accountable irrigation and drainage service delivery. The second component is to improve bulk water delivery to irrigation systems, service delivery, and management in the selected irrigation and drainage schemes. The third component aims to build on the improved irrigation infrastructure and water delivery activities realized under the previous component, to improve the productivity and quality of agriculture, increase farmers' incomes, and reduce their vulnerability to adverse climatic events. The final component of the project supports the operating costs of the implementing agencies.
