Vietnam's Island-Building Project in Spratly Islands

under construction

Vietnam has sharply increased land reclamation and construction in parts of the Spratly Islands it claims in the disputed South China Sea. The project involves dredging and landfill work at multiple reefs including Alison Reef, Collins Reef, East Reef, Landsdowne Reef, and Petley Reefs, expanding artificial land on 21 Vietnamese-occupied features. Expansion has also begun at Amboyna Cay, Grierson Reef, and West Reef. Infrastructure such as munitions storage containers is appearing on several reefs where dredging is nearing completion.
