Description
Description | The project objective is to decommission and reclaim the landfill of the Village of Hodgeville, non-compliant with the best management practices for landfill construction. The landfill active cell has a surface area of about 2200 m2 and was permitted to only receive municipal waste during its operation. Landfill is currently in operation and will be closed prior to decommissioning activities. No environmental studies have occurred at the landfill as of yet, therefore the scope of work consists of an environmental site assessment, corrective action plan and completing and implementing a Decommissioning and Reclamation plan that is acceptable to the Ministry of Environment’s Landfill Section. Decommissioning and Reclamation activities include the design and construction of the final engineered cover, storm water management, removal of existing infrastructure (if deemed necessary), recycling, metal, concrete, clean wood piles, installation of monitoring wells, and reclamation activities to ensure it is in conformance with the surrounding lands and the future intended use. Decommissioning and reclamation of the proposed landfill will attenuate the generation of leachate which in turn increases capacity to reduce soil pollutants in line with the Environmental Quality Out-comes of the Green Infrastructure Stream of the ICIP. |
