Description
Description | The main objective of the project is to avoid extensive property damage and serious health hazards as a result of potential sewer backups by upgrading an at-risk lift station in the Village of Kenaston. The lift station is the furthest downstream piece of wastewater infrastructure before the lagoon and has no backup power or backup pump system. In the event of failure, a massive back up could occur causing extensive damage to the community. By improving and increasing pumping capacity, effective disposal of wastewater to the village lagoon will be ensured, while adhering to all provincial and federal regulations. In the existing wastewater network, there are two lift stations used to discharge wastewater to the Village lagoons. The upstream lift station utilizes two 5HP pumps and forces wastewater to the downstream lift station. The downstream lift station is under sized and uses a single 5HP pump with no backup power or pump. Potential service interruptions would result in severe damage to the properties within the Village as a result of loss of power or pump failure. The new lift station will be equipped with dual 5.5 HP pumps working in a lead/lag configuration with a backup generator. The design will efficiently discharge the wastewater 1 km to the lagoon and ensure pumping ability even in the event of power loss or single pump failure. The increased pumping capacity and emergency measure will allow for future population growth, economic opportunities for the community, and mitigate the likelihood of a severe backup causing concern to health and significant property damage. |
