Description

Description

The project consists of the expansion and renovation of the Village of Kingston’s Library The scope of the work involves the expansion from 1000 sq ft to 4000 sq ft The project aims to improve access to and increased quality of cultural infrastructure This Project is to renovate a municipally owned building at 671 Main Street, Kingston, Nova Scotia, into an improved and expanded Kingston Community Library to enable increased programming and an expanded collection. The village office and library formerly shared the same building. As a separate project, the Village of Kingston moved their offices to another building. This project will renovate the building at 671 Main Street to house a renewed and expanded library. The library renovation will expand the current library space of just over 1000 sq.ft. to approximately 4000 sq.ft. It will allow for a multipurpose room, a large community room, an interactive children’s space, more room for the library’s collection, and a larger seating area. The expansion will include LED lighting throughout and the addition of heat pumps and air exchangers, replacing the oil-fired hot water heating, thereby reducing its energy footprint. The new library will have accessible entrances and accessible washrooms. Kingston is also home to the local chapter of Autism Nova Scotia, and design of the interiors and especially the children’s area will keep sensory issues in mind.
