Description | Vinfast, a Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturing company, has set up a car manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The plant was established on 114 acres in Sillanatham SIPCOT with an initial estimated cost of Rs. 1,119.67 crore and later expanded to a total investment of about Rs 16,000 crores. The plant has a production capacity of 1.5 lakh vehicles per year and has started production within 17 months of laying the foundation stone in February 2024. The first phase includes two workshops, two warehouses, and a car testing area. The plant produces VF-6 and VF-7 electric cars, which have been brought from Vietnam and put up for sale. The project is expected to provide employment to at least 3,500 people and contribute significantly to the economic development of the region and trade between Tamil Nadu and Vietnam. |
