Violence prevention for young people

Lack of work and prospects, increasing population density and weak state structures encourage young people to resort to violence, particularly in the poorer parts of Kinshasa, which is increasingly manifesting itself in collective attacks by youth gangs (Kuluna) on the population. Against this background, the project Violence Prevention for Young People aims to strengthen social cohesion (culture of peace) through an integrated and participatory approach and thus contribute to violence prevention (overarching development policy goal). The module goal is to create sustainable prospects for young people by making appropriate use of the infrastructure provided, strengthening their professional and social skills and taking advantage of the participation opportunities offered. This is to be achieved through investments in youth-relevant infrastructure (including the construction or restoration of youth centers, sports facilities and public spaces), the financing of training and employment opportunities and the participatory design of public spaces. The new project is based on a RV commitment of EUR 10 million, which will be made available as a grant. The project is expected to last four years.
