The project contributes to achieving the development cooperation programme objective: The safety of particularly vulnerable population groups in selected disadvantaged areas is improved through the cooperation of public, civil society and neighbourhood-based organisations. The aim of the module is to create the conditions for the urban violence prevention concept successfully introduced in Cape Town to be applied in other urban poverty areas in both Cape Town and the Western Cape province. This is intended to contribute to increasing safety and quality of life at the new locations. This is done by providing security-relevant infrastructure in public or semi-public spaces, as well as by strengthening NGOs and CBOs that increase self-help potential and social cohesion among the population of the residential areas. The main aim of the new phase is to set up a support structure that can take the approach from Cape Town to the provincial level and implement it there. At the same time, the measures will be continued in the programme regions of Cape Town. The target group of the development cooperation project is the entire population of the identified districts in Cape Town and in two cities in the Western Cape province. Measures to improve public spaces and housing as well as strengthening municipal services contribute to the prevention of violence in public institutions, in the urban environment and in the family.
