Description | Virginia Railway Express (VRE) is pursuing major rail projects including the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority’s Long Bridge improvement project, the third and fourth track projects at Franconia, Alexandria, and L’Enfant, and improvements at individual stations. A future Potomac Shores station is planned on the Fredericksburg Line to serve the growing Prince William County development. VRE intends to expand service beyond commuter-focused rail with potential weekend and late-night service, including adding Saturday service pending approval from rail track owners. The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority has secured a plan to purchase the Manassas Line from Norfolk Southern to boost bi-directional service. |
