Description | The Virginia Solar Park project by involves the development of a 275 MWp solar farm located in Virginia, Free State, South Africa. It is the largest solar project under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers’ Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) with a contracted capacity of 240MW. The goal is to contribute significant renewable energy capacity to South Africa's grid, aiming to provide electricity to approximately 240,000 homes. Red Rocket leads the project in partnership with Reatile, Jade-Sky Energy, and the Red Rocket Opportunity Trust. The South African government, awarded the project to Red Rocket. The project is supported by a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply electricity generated from the solar park. The total investment stands at $248 million, which is partly financed by Rand Merchant Bank (RMB). A joint venture between PowerChina and Green Whistle will build the Virginia Solar Park under a turnkey EPC contract.
