Description
Description | The project concerns the construction of the onshore power supply (OPS) infrastructure for electric ferries in two TEN¬-T comprehensive ports of Estonia: Port of Kuivastu and Port of Virtsu, managed by AS Saarte Liinid. These ports serve the important ferry line linking directly continental Estonia (mainland) with Muhu Island and further with Saaremaa Island, the largest island of Estonia. The current ferry connection between the two ports is based on three vessels using diesel engines. One of them will be replaced by a new electric ferry creating the need for recharging infrastructure in the two ports. The project includes the design of the upgrade of the grid within the boundaries of the ports, the construction works to upgrade the medium and low voltage (MV and LV) network within the two ports for shore-side electricity supply to recharging stations, the purchase of the recharging stations and the connection to the open grid network. The project aims at reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) and other harmful air emissions from shipping, and at promoting zero and low-emission shipping in the Baltic Sea. It contributes to decarbonising transport along the TEN-T network as well as reducing noise and vibration from shipping. |
