Description

Description

VIBES intents to train Physical Education (PE) teachers in the use and exploitation of Virtual reality (VR) technologies in PE classes and in the design of learning experiences using VR, so as to open up the potential of VR in schools for the promotion of physical activity and sports, increase the interest and motivation of pupils to engage with physical activity and sports inside and in out-of-school settings, thus reducing sedentary behaviours, while at the same time, contribute to PE teachers’, pupils’ and relevant stakeholders’ digital readiness and competency’.  This will be achieved by training at least 40 PE teachers on the use and application of VR in their PE classes, and on the design of learning experiences for students, as the main tool for increasing the engagement and interest of students in in physical activity and sports and promoting the maintenance of lifelong engagement in physical activity. A needs-oriented training package targeting PE teachers, will be development and digitalized for increased impact, usability, and sustainability, along with a virtual community for PE teachers across EU to connect and exchange ideas and best practices. The VIBES main outputs will be tested in real-world settings with target groups, while a series of VR games will be organized at schools and partners’ local communities targeting at least 150 students. The long-term impact of the project is to increasing PE teachers’ consciousness toward the importance of children’s regular PA practice and how digital technologies can aid towards achieving this. The partnership includes three HEIs (VUB, IPL, UCLan Cyprus), one SME (INQUIRIUM), one Sport Association (CUS Palermo) from 4 EU countries, as well as one Association as Associated Partner (ISCA).
