The early extension of the concession contract for the Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas (EFVM) was qualified in the Investment Partnership Program (PPI) at the 2nd Meeting of the PPI Council, through Resolution No. 10, of 03/07/2017, converted into Decree No. 9,059, of 05/25/2017. The benefits expected from the extension of the current contract, for another 30 years, will be the mandatory investments in security and the increase in capacity, which will be agreed by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT). The Vitória a Minas Railway originates in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, where it connects with FCA and, over a total length of 895 km, reaches the Port of Tubarão, in Vitória. Its route runs along the Doce River valley for a long time. Although it is a metric gauge railway, it has great capacity and efficiency in transporting cargo. The main product is iron ore from Minas Gerais and destined for export. However, it also transports general cargo and passengers, being the only freight railway to operate daily trains for this service in both directions. The extension of the current contract, which will end on June 30, 2027, will also bring forward investments, which would only be made from 2027 onwards. The main goods moved in 2018, in thousands of useful tons, were: iron ore, 112,172; steel products, 4,223; mineral coal, 3,560; cellulose, 1,163; A large part of the grant from this project may be directed to investments in the public interest, such as new investments in the network itself or in other interventions on the national railway network (cross-investments). These improvements will be an obligation of the dealership. Part of the grant amount due for the early extension of the EFVM concession contract will be allocated to the construction of 383 km of the Central-West Integration Railway – FICO, between Mara Rosa/GO and Água Boa/MT. History – Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) obtained on 06/27/1997, through a contract signed with the Union, the concession for the exploration of rail transport services for cargo and passengers, provided by Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas . The granting of this concession was effected by the Presidential Decree of 6/27/97, published in the Official Gazette of the Union of 6/28/1997. The company continued to operate these services from 07/01/1997.
