Description
Description | The port of Vladivostok was the third largest in the Far East, after Nakhodka and Vostochny. In July 28, 1995 the Government Cooperative Corporation of Commercial Port of Vladivostok has been restructured into Commercial Port of Vladivostok Corporation. Before privatization, it comprised 41 divisions and employed 4,000 people. The port had 18 piers that stretched 4,270 meters along the Vladivostok waterfront, and it serviced both cargo and passenger vessels. The port spun off all 18 of its former divisions into companies. The new companies were headed by former directors of the divisions. Commercial Port of Vladivostok Corporation was held by 46 enterprises of different forms of property, mostly former divisions of the state owned port. This might had been an infraction of federal laws on privatization, which was currently under investigation in midst of political struggles over mayoral elections in the city. Spin-off Vladivostock Industrial Port (VLADINPORT) was established in 1993 as joint-stock company to construct and operate a new industrial port. Major shareholders of the new company were the Vladivostock Port (37%), Far-Easytern Shipping Co. (FESCO)-(32%), Far Eastern Railroad (17%), Far Eastern Bank (7%) and Far Eastern Industrial Construction Bank (7%) with total equity of US$ 1 million. The Port had 17 berths available with a total length of 4 200m alongside. Two of them were capable of taking cruise passenger ships. The operating modern container terminal provided the prompt delivery of cargoes to the north-east region of Russia, the SEA countries and US West Coast. Its berthing length was 303m, annual throughput was 70,000TEUs. Different kinds of cargo were handled at the other berths. The Port was specialized in handling general cargoes, including containers, bulk cargo, as well as lumber ones. Since there was no grain elevator in the port, grain and other bulk cargoes are handled directly from aboard the ship to the rail cars. http://www.vladcomport.ru/ None |
