Description

Description

In the fifth year of the Syrian crisis, more than 16 million Syrians are dependent on aid in their own country or in neighboring countries. Lebanon is home to around 1.2 million registered refugees. The massive refugee movements are putting a strain on the already scarce resources and social infrastructure, particularly in districts close to the border with Syria. It can be assumed that the refugees will not be able to return to their home regions for the time being. The aim of the FC measure is to contribute to improving resilience in the current crisis by quickly improving basic social and economic infrastructure. The measures focus on areas with a high refugee presence. The target group includes both Syrian refugees and the poor local population in the host communities. The measure supports UNICEF activities to improve training and qualification opportunities for both Lebanese and Syrian young people and adolescents in order to facilitate the transition from training to entry into the job market. An FC contribution of EUR 11 million is being made available for this purpose over four years. The target group includes up to 44,000 young people/adolescents who will benefit from the activities. KfW is responsible for the measure as a direct contribution. UNICEF, which specializes in educational projects for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, has been commissioned to implement it.
