The Vocational Training in the North of Sri Lanka project aims to support the vocational training system after the end of hostilities by setting up and equipping a vocational school. In addition, up to eight existing vocational schools in the region will be enabled through smaller measures to train students so that they can take up further training at the Sri Lankan German Training Institute (SLGTI). Better vocational training increases the employment and income opportunities of graduates and also contributes to expanding the supply of skilled workers and thus improving the market opportunities of companies that benefit from the higher level of training of graduates. The BMZ is providing a total of EUR 8.4 million in grants for this (of which up to EUR 1.0 million is from the Study and Skilled Worker Fund). The project is being carried out in close cooperation with GIZ, which is carrying out a parallel or anticipatory technical cooperation measure to set up and advise the vocational school amounting to EUR 4.0 million.
