Vocational training program

The vocational training reform program includes the modernization and expansion of technical vocational training institutions under the Ministry of Education (MoE). The module objective of the project is to improve the range of labor market-oriented training and further education courses at the supported vocational training institutions. The target group of the project includes adolescents and young adults nationwide aged around 14 to 20 years, as well as young job-seekers or employed people who are seeking employment-oriented training or further education in order to increase their chances of finding employment that is appropriate to their training. In addition, teachers, trainers and management staff of the schools are part of the immediate target group. The project is an FC module under the joint DC program Sustainable Economic Development in Myanmar. In a first phase, three institutes in Yangon are to be supported as part of a joint school approach: the Government Technical Institute (GTI) Insein, the GTI Shwepyithar and the Government Technical High School (GTHS) Ywarma. All three institutes are located in the same part of the city and in the immediate vicinity of three adjacent industrial zones. Due to their proximity to industry, these institutions offer good conditions for piloting labor market-oriented training courses. In addition, as part of the first program phase, a photovoltaic system is to be purchased for the Industrial Training Center (ITC) in Sinde, which is already being funded as part of the FC module Vocational Training Program / Sinde (BMZ No. 2014 67 521). In later phases, the vocational training reform program is to be expanded to other locations. The FC contribution is primarily intended to purchase modern training equipment and teaching and learning materials for the participating institutes and, if necessary, to finance smaller construction projects. As part of the accompanying measure, device-specific training is to be carried out, which enables the teachers and instructors at the institutes to operate and maintain the systems properly and to use them optimally in lessons from a technical and didactic point of view. The project is being carried out in close cooperation with GIZ. GIZ supports the locations within the network school concept by providing advice and skills development in designing and implementing labor market-oriented training and further education courses.
