Volkswagen Poznań Solar Farm Agrivoltaics Initiative

operational

Volkswagen has introduced a flock of 100 sheep to graze beneath the solar panels at its manufacturing plant in Poznań, Poland, as part of an agrivoltaics initiative. The project explores how agriculture and renewable energy can coexist on the same land, replacing mechanical mowing with sustainable sheep grazing to maintain vegetation under more than 31,000 solar panels. The initiative is in collaboration with Poznań University of Life Sciences to study impacts on animal welfare, biodiversity, soil quality, vegetation, and microclimate.
