Description | Volkswagen uses 100 sheep to graze under 31,000 solar panels at an 18.3 MW solar power plant in Poznań, Poland. The project replaces lawnmowers with sheep to maintain the facility and is part of a research program on agrivoltaics, studying the coexistence of agriculture and solar energy on the same land. The solar plant supplies about 25% of the electricity needed by the Volkswagen plant and is managed by Quanta Energy. The project is implemented jointly with the Poznań University of Life Sciences to study impacts on animal welfare, biodiversity, soil quality, vegetation, and microclimate. |
