Vuda Point Energy-from-Waste Complex and Private Port

Next Generation Holdings (Fiji) Pte Limited, led by Australian billionaire Ian Malouf, proposes an 85-hectare Energy-from-Waste complex and private port at Saweni, Vuda Point, Fiji. The facility is designed to process 2,700 tonnes of waste per day, generate 80 megawatts of power, and involves an investment of FJD 1.4 billion. The project includes a private port at Nakakoro Point to import foreign waste, as Fiji's own waste generation is insufficient to meet the facility's input requirements. The project has faced opposition due to environmental, cultural, and legal concerns, including lack of landowner consent and potential violation of international waste import conventions.
