The project included setting up a scientific landfill and a solid waste processing facility to segregate non-biodegradable and combustible waste. The project faced issues including destruction of the waste processing facility by fire in 2013, failure to restart the facility, and partial landfilling of legacy waste between 2015 and 2017. An audit by IIT Bombay in 2017 raised concerns about the project's utility due to the absence of a waste processing facility. A high level committee was appointed in 2025 to probe alleged irregularities and corruption related to the project, which involved a wasteful expenditure of ₹24.64 crore. |
