WA Rare Earths Refinery Project by Tronox

planned

Tronox, a US mineral sands miner, is planning to build a rare earths refinery in Western Australia. The project involves a cracking and leaching plant to produce mixed rare earth carbonate using tailings from its mineral sands operations. Tronox is seeking major project status to facilitate faster approvals and has identified a preferred site on WA's Western Trade Coast, including the Kwinana Industrial Area and Rockingham Industrial Zone. The project has tentative backing for up to $US600 million in funding from US and Australian Federal credit agencies.
