The Wak Port Qasim is a $515.0 million project that has six barges with a total capacity of 450-MW. Three have two gas turbines and three have one steam turbine each. A consortium of Wak Orient Power & Light tld., Westinghouse Electric Corp and Raytheon Engineers & Constructors, a Raytheon subsidiary, was awarded the $382.0 EPC contract on April 22, 1996. Westinghouse will operate and maintain the barges for 12 years and supply equipment for the project. Construction, engineering, and procurement are being provided by Raytheon Engineers & Constructors. The barges are expected to become operational during 1999. The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD), which provides funding for barge-mounted projects constructed in the US, approved a $410.0 million export credit for the project. A 30-year power purchasing agreement was signed with the Karachi Electric Supply Corp. (KESC). None None
