Description

Description

The Walker River Paiute Tribe was awarded a $20 million grant from the EPA's Community Change Grant to execute a multiyear climate resiliency plan. The project aimed to deliver water, energy, and food infrastructure improvements to about 1,200 tribal members, including weatherizing and upgrading 150 homes for energy efficiency and climate resilience, installing central air conditioning, solar panels, battery storage, and building a Community Resilience and Food Storage Hub. It also included a water infrastructure project to improve water pressure, add fire hydrants, and support new housing construction. However, the grant was terminated by the EPA in May 2025, leading the tribe to continue the water infrastructure project with partial funding and limited savings.
