The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, also known as the Butterfly Bridge or wildlife bridge to nowhere, is a $114 million pedestrian bridge project in Agoura Hills, California. It is designed as a wildlife crossing over the 101 freeway, intended to allow animals to cross safely. The project was initially sold as being funded by private donors with some state funding, but the majority of the funding has come from taxpayers. The cost has ballooned from $54 million to $114 million and the project is still not finished. The project includes unusual line items such as a fungi habitat designer, indigenous seed scouts, and a soil scientist to make the dirt feel more natural. $77 million in state funds have already been released for this project.
