Description
Description | The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing is the world’s largest wildlife bridge designed to span ten lanes of the 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills, California. It aims to restore genetic diversity among Southern California’s mountain lions and protect other species from vehicle collisions by providing a safe passage over the freeway. The bridge mimics the surrounding hillsides with native soil, plants, and sound barriers, creating a living ecosystem. Construction began in 2022 with an initial budget of $90 million and a planned completion in 2025, but due to delays and cost overruns, the opening is now scheduled for December 2, 2026, with costs rising to $114 million funded by private donations and public money. |
