Description | Namibian authorities have selected South Africa's HTMR-100 small modular nuclear reactor to power a planned oil refinery in Walvis Bay. The project includes a 300,000-barrel-per-day refinery and a nuclear reactor complex on a 305-hectare industrial site. The nuclear technology will supply thermal heat and electricity, supporting a broader Green Energy Complex including a desalination plant. The modular reactor design allows incremental expansion with up to ten reactors on-site. The project aims to address electricity deficits in Sub-Saharan Africa and is pending environmental approvals. |
