Description
Description | The FC measure Electrification of Monrovia in the context of the WAPP Access to Energy along the Four-Country Transmission Line CLSG is considered the third essential building block for a sustainable and secure electricity supply in Liberia after the two projects Rehabilitation of the Mt. Coffee Hydroelectric Power Plant and Construction of the Four-Country Transmission Line CLSG. The measure includes the construction of the network infrastructure at distribution level, the grid connection of the project areas and the installation of prepayment meters. The aim of the FC measure is to provide up to 16,000 electricity consumers in Monrovia with reliable access to inexpensive and environmentally friendly electricity from the national grid. The measure will thus create a sustainable electricity supply for up to 80,000 people, a higher utilization of the Mt. Coffee Hydroelectric Power Plant and the CLSG line and a significant contribution to sustainable economic and social development in the capital of Liberia. The target group of the measure are households, companies (mainly MSMEs) and public institutions in the project areas and indirectly all residents of the greater Monrovia area, who benefit from improved economic competitiveness and the associated positive employment effect. The costs of the project are expected to amount to EUR 15-20 million. These are to be covered in part by an FC grant of EUR 15 million and a contribution from the Liberian partners. |
