Description

Description

The overall objective of the project is to develop War on Wheels, a story-driven videogame of post-apocalyptic car combat which offers new gameplay elements to an important market segment: turn-based tactical combat. Project objectives include the development of original gameplay elements including turn-based physics-controlled vehicular movement, a nuanced combat system incorporating physics elements, an original and engaging narrative, and a focus on the unique individuality of in-game characters via a number of procedural systems - combat, visual, and social-narrative – leading to emergent narrative during play. Project activities include a range of creative, technical, and marketing tasks. Artistic outputs include narrative scripts, game systems designs, line sketches, animated paintings, a novel identikit system for procedural character generation, 3D models and maps for the game, sound effects and a dynamic music system involving real-time mixing. Technical outputs include various subsystems for the overall game: game narrative flow and conversation, vehicular combat, procedural social systems, player progression, and a number of prototype systems for further development beyond the end of the funded project. Finance, distribution and marketing outputs include a crowdfunding campaign, engagement with game publishers and distributors, and promotion of the game on various digital and traditional channels. The project will meet the goals of the Work Programme by assisting the Irish games company Psychic Games Ltd. to undertake an ambitious project with global ambition, and thereby improve their ability to grow into the future. The project will employ approximately 5-6 programmers, artists and game designers on a full or part-time basis.
