Boston University is undertaking a three-and-a-half year, $550 million renovation of Warren Towers, the largest dorm in Massachusetts. The renovation aims to improve the living quarters by adding modern amenities such as air conditioning, better bathrooms, and adjustable thermostats, while significantly reducing the building's greenhouse gas emissions. The project includes adding insulation, installing a cool roof, larger insulated windows, and switching from a natural gas steam plant to electric generators and heat pumps, with renewable energy credits from a wind farm to achieve net-zero emissions.
