Description | The Washington Bridge in Rhode Island was closed due to structural problems discovered in December 2023. Two construction companies, Barletta and Aetna, who were hired for a major project on the bridge in 2021, have filed counterclaims against the state, alleging failure to provide critical information about the bridge's condition, including a 1992 engineering report recommending special inspections. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is involved in the lawsuit, and a new westbound Washington Bridge is projected to open in late November 2028. |
