Description	The Washington Loop extension of the Tyne and Wear Metro is a new Metro line project in the North East of England. It is the first new Metro line in 30 years, connecting Washington to the rail network and linking tens of thousands of people to new jobs and opportunities in the advanced manufacturing sector. The project includes the use of the northern section of the mothballed Leamside railway line to form a link between existing stations at Pelaw and South Hylton, with plans for two stations in Washington and another at Follingsby. The project is part of a £1.85 billion government funding deal for transport in the North East, which also includes investments in road maintenance, walking and cycling routes, bus priority measures, and electric vehicle infrastructure.
