Washington State Data Center Energy Impact Regulation

planned

The Washington State Attorney General's Office Artificial Intelligence Task Force is considering recommendations to regulate data centers across the state due to concerns about their impact on local utility rates. The draft recommendations include preventing residents from bearing the costs of new energy loads from data centers and requiring companies to cover interconnection and infrastructure costs to avoid shifting costs to other customers. The task force will vote on these recommendations in July 2026.
