Description | Washington State Ferries has contracted ABB to supply and integrate hybrid-electric propulsion systems for two new 160-auto ferries as part of their System Electrification Program. The ferries will feature the largest ship batteries ever installed in the US, enabling lower emissions, reduced fuel consumption, and all-electric operations on short routes and in port. The first two ships are scheduled for delivery in 2030 and 2031, with an option for a third ferry. The program aims to build up to 16 ships by 2040 to modernize the fleet and reduce environmental impact. |
