Description | Washington State Ferries will build two new 160-auto hybrid-electric ferries equipped with ABB's hybrid-electric propulsion systems as part of the Ferry System Electrification Program. These vessels will feature the largest marine battery system ever installed in the United States, enabling zero-emission operation in ports and on short routes, significantly reducing air pollution. The ferries are scheduled to enter service in 2030 and 2031, with an option for a third ship and plans to build up to 16 hybrid-electric ferries by 2040. |
