Washington State FinFish Aquaculture Ban

completed

Washington State has made history by becoming the first place in the world to permanently ban commercial net pen aquaculture in state-managed marine waters. This decision follows a legal campaign initiated after environmental damage caused by a Cooke salmon farm collapse in Puget Sound. The ban aims to protect the ecosystems of Puget Sound and the species that rely on it, such as wild salmon and Southern Resident orcas.
