Washington Street Shared-Use Path Pilot Project

The City of Newton has created a new shared-use path along the southern side of Washington Street between West Newton and Newtonville. The project includes repaving the street, adding concrete barriers and large planters to create a protected two-way pathway, and creating several new shortened crosswalks connecting to residential streets. The project aims to improve safety and pedestrian/bike friendliness on Washington Street, which was previously a four-lane speedway with no sidewalks on the southern side.
