The aim of the module (Waste Management Program II-IV) is to contribute to environmentally friendly, hygienically safe and sustainable waste management and to support the implementation of the national waste strategy and the convergence with EU environmental standards. An important secondary goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thus climate protection. The module thus contributes to the goals of the development cooperation program and in particular to satisfying the basic needs of the population. As part of the project, all landfills and the transfer station of the Kosovo Landfill Management Company (KLMC) are to be rehabilitated, closed, expanded or rebuilt according to modern standards. In addition, the performance of the project sponsor is to be increased through accompanying measures in order to ensure efficient and sustainable operation. The target group of the project is the entire population of the communities whose waste is disposed of at the KLMC facilities. The project thus reaches around three quarters of the Kosovar population. The total cost of the project, including the inventory audit part, is estimated at EUR 75 million (plus taxes and own contributions), of which EUR 72 million is for investment costs and EUR 3 million for accompanying measures. The project is to be financed through FC grants and grants from other donors (mainly the EU). To date, EUR 13 million has been pledged for the project (VE 2016/2018), as well as a further EUR 8 million from the 2020 framework planning.
